10 years of Angélus vertical

Château Angélus visiting Oslo and Trondheim, Norway. Wines over a period of ten years, 1998-2008 were tasted, with a very enthusiastic Jean-Bernard Grenié.

2008 Château Angélus;
Ruby, blueberries, vanilla and anise, with some floral high-notes. Fresh acidity, lots of ripe tannins, very youthful and vigorous, needs time to settle, like a little too enthusiastic dog slapping it's tail around everywhere. Wait another two years, or easily ten. 92-93

Hands going too quick for the camera!

2007 Château Angélus;
Ruby, perfumed with a touch of herbs, some rose petals, and the bell peppers are more or less gone. Blueberries and lavender, slightly lean, but quite refreshing, drinking beautifully now, and even if I enjoy some age on my Bordeaux, this one could be at it's best soon. Elegant finish. 91

2006 Château Angélus;
Ruby, more closed and tighter, needs an hour in decanter to open, then blueberry, leather, anise and tobacco. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, more texture than 05, more classical in style, long. 93

2005 Château Angélus;
Deep ruby, rich nose, dark plums and blueberries, vanilla and sweet tobacco. Fleshy texture with a mineral feel behind, fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant texture, even if it should rest another up to ten years in the cellar to start showing it's true potential, long length. 94

2004 Château Angélus;
Rubt, fresh and lively, blueberries, some leather and again that slight mineral feel. Needs an hour of decanting to open. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, lively and easy drinking, not in a negative way, but it's so mouthwatering that you can't wait for another sip. The first glass to empty at everyones hands. Layered, flirting, beautiful now, but I feel it can be kept a while longer. 92-93

2003 Château Angélus;
Ruby, sweet plums, cinamon, blueberries, seductive nose. Good acidity, tannins very ripe, very easy drinking texture, but also in the same way, slightly boring texture, to kind in a way, at least for such young fruit. Long finish. 92

1998 Château Angélus;
Ruby, seductive nose of starting maturation. Blueberries and white chocolate, leather and anise, dark plums. Fresh acidity, tannins ripe, starting to drink beautifully now, long length. 93
